Are you looking for a checklist before going on a ski holiday for the first time? There are many things to prepare before leaving for a ski trip. But don’t worry; we are happy to help you on your way, and have put together a packing list for your ski trip!

Essentials for a ski trip

First of all, think about your equipment: skis, snowboard, poles, and boots. Buying your own equipment for a first-time ski holiday can be quite expensive. Are you borrowing it from someone? Then make sure you check it before you leave.

It is easier to rent ski equipment through Sunweb when you book your ski holiday. That way, you won’t need to buy your own and you will be free from the hassle of transporting the equipment. However, you will still need suitable ski clothing, including warm gloves and a hat.

Packing for a ski trip: warm clothes and lots of layers

When you go on a skiing holiday, choosing the right clothing is crucial. You will want to stay warm and comfortable as you conquer the slopes, but you also don’t want to go overboard with too much baggage. How much clothing should you actually take with you on your skiing holiday? The keyword is layers. Bring thermal underwear as a base layer and add insulating clothing such as a fleece over the top, which will help you stay warm.

Remember to take a waterproof ski jacket and pants, so you won’t get wet and cold if you take a tumble on the slopes. Invest in good ski socks and bring extra. Don’t forget gloves, a neck warmer, and a hat for warmth. And remember a helmet for safety on the slopes! You can easily rent a helmet on location.

Ski holiday packing list: when you are not skiing

When packing for a ski trip, it is easy to simply focus on what to bring for skiing. But you should also remember clothing for when you are not on the slopes. Don’t forget to bring warm and comfortable loungewear. There’s nothing better than having a drink on the couch in the evenings, planning tomorrow’s adventures.

Ski holiday packing list: choose the right footwear

When choosing shoes for your skiing holiday, it goes without saying that ski boots are on the list. But what other shoes should you take with you? In addition to your ski boots, it is best to take another pair of warm shoes with you. Especially if you plan to participate in après-ski activities.

If you will be travelling to France, the après-ski scene often gets started after dinner, so there will be time to go home and change before enjoying some drinks in the evening. In Austria however, the après-ski typically starts up immediately after skiing. Since enjoying après-ski drinks is not very comfortable in ski boots, we advise that you take some normal clothes and shoes with you.

Snowshoes can be useful if you plan on taking some long winter walks. Don’t forget to break in your shoes before departure: nothing is more annoying than blisters during skiing! If you don’t have any snowshoes, bring waterproof shoes with lots of grip to prevent slipping – so, no flat-soled trainers!

Your ski holiday checklist: what else should you remember?

Besides the essentials, such as ski clothing and equipment, there are other items that can come in handy. Consider taking good-quality sunglasses to protect your eyes from the bright sun reflecting off of the snow, and sunscreen and lip balm for UV protection. Did you know that you can get burnt by the sun faster in the snow? Snow reflects UV radiation even more than sand at the beach.

Don’t forget to bring a backpack to store your belongings in. It is wise to take some snacks and a water bottle with you to keep your energy up on the slopes. Did you know that you should be drinking more water than usual when high in the mountains? The rule of thumb is to drink an additional liter of water per day when above 1000 metres altitude. This will ensure that you won’t get dehydrated and will ward off headaches.

Finally, make sure you have the right insurance to deal with unexpected situations. Insurance is important in case something unexpected happens, such as injuries or lost luggage.
